Belgian notice period calculator — Dismissal and resignation

Calculate your Belgian notice period under Belgian social law. Based on the law of 26 December 2013 (Single Status) and official SPF Emploi grids, applicable to both white- and blue-collar workers, pre-2014 and post-2014 contracts.

How does the calculation work?

  1. For contracts entered into on or after 1 January 2014, the notice period is set by a fixed grid in weeks based on seniority (law of 26 December 2013).
  2. For contracts predating 1 January 2014, the notice period is computed in two parts (ratchet mechanism): a portion frozen on 31/12/2013 and a new portion accrued from 01/01/2014.
  3. In case of resignation by the employee, the notice period is capped at 13 weeks under the post-2014 grid.

Frequently asked questions

What is the legal basis of the notice period in Belgium?

The notice period is set by the law of 26 December 2013 introducing the Single Status, supplemented by the SPF Emploi grids for pre-2014 contracts.

Is the calculation the same for blue- and white-collar workers?

Since 1 January 2014, yes: the Single Status has unified notice periods for contracts entered into from that date. For older contracts, the pre-2014 part is still computed under the previous status-specific rules.

Does the calculator's result have legal value?

No. The result is purely indicative and is not a substitute for legal advice or case review by a social secretariat. For official termination handling, contact Paycore.

What data do I need to provide?

Four data points are enough: start-of-employment date, notification date, type of termination (dismissal or resignation), and worker status (employee or worker). No data is stored.
